Inspired by all of the adorable chalkboard signs I found in Paris, I decided to make my own. Keep in mind, I spent zero dollars on this project. Try your best to save some money and use what you have at home. Here is what I used.
- Old or new Matte boards used for framing
- Black spray paint
- Skewers
- Paper cutter or scissors
- Glue gun
- Burlap or lace
- Chalk or white color pencil, or white crayon
Notice, I didn't use traditional chalkboard paint. I just wanted to let you know that you can use any black paint. Chalk will stick just fine.
I spray-painted each of the picture matte about 4-5 times. Keep your intervals long between coats to be sure that each coat is dry before you apply the next.
I love my paper cutter! If you don't have one, I would definitely invest in a quality paper cutter. If not, sharp scissors will do just fine. Just make a pencil line to make sure you can cut your matte board correctly.
Here is my end result. These are about three inches long and two inches wide.
I added glue to the back of the matte and sandwiched the skewer between the matte and the burlap.
An optional step is to add a little flare. I had this little decoration piece in my home, but you can also use buttons, feathers, etc. Be creative!
Write your message and your done! Remember if you don't have skewers, you could also use clothes pins and attach to a bowl. In addition, if you don't have burlap, use lace. If you don't have chalk, use a white color pencil or crayon. Raid your kids school box! Anyway, have fun and show me what you got! I'd love to feature you in a future post. Email me. Take care and as always,
Happy Planning!
